Work on Metro’s Tripunithura extension to start soon

Chip away at enlarging the Pettah-Tripunithura passage to make ready for Kochi Metro’s Tripunithura augmentation is set to remove the State Government has authorized Rs.123 crore for the expansion’s preliminary works.

The thin Pettah span, which falls in the hallway as well, will be enlarged to four-path, Minister for Excise and Ports K. Babu told The Hindu . Crossing the scaffold is a bad dream for people on foot since it doesn’t have a pathway.

The Rs 123-crore asset will be used to repay landowners, shift utility lines and extend the congested street. Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has assets to build the augmentation’s viaduct and two stations — at Alliance Junction and S.N. Intersection.

Kunnara-Pettah

Meanwhile, the progressing four-laning work of the Kunnara Park-Pettah hall for taking the metro past Vyttila is experiencing delay, it is learnt. “The arrangement was changed marginally to keep away from underground oil pipelines. This has required crisp area obtaining. The Revenue Department must gather a locale level buy council getting to speed together the procedure,” metro sources said.

The interest to extend the Vyttila-Kunnara stretch has failed to receive any notice. The KMRL had expressed that it would not take up the errand since the metro goes through Vyttila Mobility Hub. The PWD, which possesses the stretch, too has not taken up the enlarging work. There are fears this would exacerbate growls in the bottlenecked passage once the street eastbound is extended.
